Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, born on July 9, 1956, is an American actor. He is famous for his dramatic and comedic parts and is considered to be an American popular culture icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker, and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother's name was originally "Fraga" while his father was predominantly English. Tom was raised in what he has called an "fractured" family. He did not have any acting experience during his college. This was what helped him get started in his career. He went to the downtown area, was a part of a community stage production. He was then asked by the director of the play to Cleveland where his acting career began.
